This year has been... a lot so far, huh? I'm personally on an emotional rollercoaster of gratitude, stress, empowered activism, pessimism and fear, youthful optimism and cooking documentaries over sushi.
And here comes Valentine's Day, a holiday that you either love or hate. I'm usually single on this commercial day of romantic showing-off, but I love the message hidden beneath all the sugar and fancy dinners. I think of V-Day as an opportunity to be grateful for love of all kinds. A day to celebrate human's capacity to feel and care deeply for each other. It's not the most popular perspective, but it keeps me happy and sane through mid-February.
Last year, I was new-ish to Oakland, single, and with nothing to do on Valentine's Day. I wanted to do something fun that wasn't a matchmaking event, where I could meet some new people maybe, no pressure, and I found nothing! So this year, Puja and I decided to host it ourselves. On Tuesday, at Solespace Downtown, we will be hosting a Makers' Fair. There will be great food, drinks, music and goodies to gift yourself (or your boo), straight from local makers! If you're single and ready to... do something fun and community-oriented, or coupled and want to stop by before/after your dinner reservation downtown, we would love to see you!
To celebrate Valentine's Day, we are offering Dating Between the Lines on our website for $10.95 + shipping (if applicable) for today and tomorrow only. Use the code ILIVEHERE to get free shipping and pick up your new book from me (bay area only, obviously). Books will ship Wedn. morning so they arrive Tues - just in time for Valentine's Day!
